They are also known as atmospheric vented water heaters. Conventional vented water heaters use the air from inside your home for the combustion process that heats the water. The combusted flue gas is then sent into the chimney and out of the home.

CV water heaters offer the least flexible installation options because they must be installed near a chimney.
